Case Three
Initial Conditions
The client needed to get POS data from delivery vehicles that travel
over a large distance. As a retail distributor of several hundred
products, it was imperative to know the exact levels of inventory to
be stocked at the main warehouse. However it was difficult to
account for the moving inventory in the trailor trucks.
Moreover, due to the
variety of products, finding the right product in the trailor
itself is a task. The inventory gets tallied only after the vans get
back to the warehouse, and even then it takes hours.
System
Delivered
- Works on PDAs for all
the vehicles that have inventory.
- Connects using GPRS on
the local GSM network, transmitting live data about each
transmission.
- All transactions are
transmitted and verified with the live system at the warehouse.
The inventory information is also updated in real time, and
there is no stock tally to be done at the end of the trip.
- The Route given to the
vehicle can also be updated realtime, so that desinations can be
modified, added or deleted.
